Our Community

Nestled in the rolling hills and pristine forests of Sussex County, rests the small community of Forest Lakes. At its center, lies a beautiful private lake – a 45 acre body of water – where members gather together to enjoy each other”s company, as well as a recreational lifestyle. It is a place that families, singles, and retirees from all walks of life call home.

Developed in the late 1950s by the Westby Corporation, Forest Lakes was, from its inception, envisioned as self-sustaining through its Club. Today, Club membership continues to ensure its lake, property, clubhouse, and beach house remain private for its members, as well as provide a means for community unity through its many organizations and events.

Unlike many other lake communities, there are no homes on the lakefront property. For this reason alone, the lake remains one of the purest bodies of water in New Jersey. To further safeguard against pollutants, only row or electric-powered boats are allowed on the lake. It is efforts such as these that ensure the natural lakefront setting and purity of the water for generations to come.

Club facilities include four scenic beaches where swimming, boating, fishing, and volleyball are enjoyed in summer months. Winter activities include ice skating, hockey, and ice fishing. Beaches are equipped with grills, picnic tables, and playgrounds, and provide members as much fun out of the water as in the water.

The Clubhouse facility provides members with an upper hall, complete with a full kitchen and outer deck, for event rentals and Club-sponsored events. The lower level houses the Forest Lakes Nursery school, which provides pre-school activities for children three to five-years old.

Membership in the Club remains the life-force of the community. Many activities and organizations – established and operated by volunteer members – sustain the community spirit on which the Lake was founded. Without a doubt, there is something for everyone in Forest Lakes.

If you live in Forest Lakes and are not a member of the Club, we urge you to do so. For membership information, contact Dorothy Gorman, Club Manager, at (973) 786-5111.
